Now that you have taken care of yourself on the outside, let’s look at what you may experience on the inside. What most people don't realize about the emotional side of being involved in this business. Modeling is a creative business and as with all things creative, can have a highly emotional aspect.
The public persona of modeling is that it is all about being beautiful on the outside. There is hardy ever a reference as to what is going on emotionally on the inside of the person gracing the covers or inside pages of our magazines. We are not just talking about the over used cliché' about "inner beauty" here, we are addressing the very humbling experience where a model must have the inner reserves to preserve self-esteem through all of the rejection. Aspiring models must maintain their inner security to deal with public image that your life has been handed to you on a silver platter.
In reality many models and actors as well, are dealing with the "impostor syndrome" of am I good enough, do I look good enough? Constantly looking into the mirror seeing all your flaws and things you have to work on. That kind of self-induced pressure can take a toll on even the most well rounded person if it is left misaddressed. A perfect example of this is the superstar who has everything and turns to drugs or alcohol leaving the public to wonder why? The emotional reality of this business sometimes makes you question; Am I worthy of success, Am I deserving? When will I get discovered as the impostor I sometimes see in the mirror?
The very real answer is you are worthy of success- believe in yourself with out being full of yourself, you are not an impostor and you are deserving because you worked hard to get here. If you have a strong base of good morals and values use them, remember them, refer back to them when you are in a bad situation- If you were not given this base growing up or did not come from a perfect "Brady Bunch" childhood find it for yourself now, create it by surrounding yourself with good people who make you feel good about yourself. You will need this foundation to survive in this business.
Deal with this and be aware of it now and you will have sweeter success later!
